Archipelago Trail in 4 Days
Archipelago Trail is a four day circular self-guided cycle tour across Turku Archipelago, one of the most popular cycling routes in Finland. The tour will take you through stunning archipelago sceneries. The islands are connected by numerous bridges and ferries. The peace and tranquility, particularly in the rugged outer islands, is a must if you want to experience Finland at its best. Most of the surfaces along the route are paved, making your ride comfortable. The profile varies from fairly flat to some rolling hills.

Day 1. Individual arrival in Nauvo
Your tour begins on the island of Nauvo/Nagu. Nauvo is situated 50 km from Turku and can be easily accessed by car or public transportation. The travel time from Turku is about 1,5 hours. If you travel from Helsinki there are hourly train and bus connections to Turku. In Nauvo you will be accommodated in a hotel or cosy b&b, get some rest after your travel and get prepared for you cycling tour. It is possible to store extra luggage in Nauvo during your cycling tour.
Day 2. Nauvo – Naantali, ~40 km
After a good night’s sleep and breakfast you will start your tour. The ferry will take you from Nauvo village to Rymättylä. The ferry ride takes about an hour and a half including a short stop at the island of Seili (Själö). Soon after you arrive at Rymättylä you can have a quick stop to climb up the restored WW2 air surveillance tower for a breathtaking view over the islands. Your accommodation is at a modern holiday resort outside the city centre or on a traditonal farm.
Day 3. Naantali – Kustavi, 50 km
Your second day of cycling will take you via Velkua and Taivassalo to Kustavi. The first part covers some rolling hills. The route will take you over some bridges with magnificent views. Your accomodation is near the sea side.
Day 4. Kustavi – Korppoo, 42 km
Shortly after departing in the morning you will take the ferry to the remote island of Iniö. Enjoy the nature trail which offers scenic views over the island and take a short stop in the local village. A one hour ferry ride with m/s Antonia will take you further to the island of Houtskär. In Houtskär you may visit the village with a museum with traditional boats and the charming wooden church. Continue along the winding roads to the ferry to Korpo/Korppoo, and your accommodation will be situated by the sea side or near the village.
Day 5. Korppoo – Nauvo, 40 km
After breakfast you will cycle back to Korppoo village and continue to the ferry to the island of Nauvo. If you prefer to stay one or two more days and relax in the Archipelago we recommend for the last night accomodation in Nauvo in a small B&B or hotel. It is also possible to begin the tour from Turku and return to Turku from Nauvo directly by boat 5 days/week in June-August.
Archipelago Trail with e-bike 5 days
With an e-bike, you ride lightly and ecologically. It is also particularly suitable for the archipelago because you can easily take your bike on the ferries. Our tour of the Archipelago Trail is a four-night, five-day stay. You depart from Turku, where you get a high-quality electric bike and its equipment, and leave your suitcase in storage for the duration of the tour. The daily driving distance is about 30 km. The first day just under 60 km the last day about 20 km. The route includes longer and shorter sea trips on ferries.
The cost of the trip is € 730 per person.
The price includes a route description, electric bike, helmet, rack bags, boat tickets, accommodation (4 nights) in a shared double room with breakfast and sauna facilities in some of the destinations.
The single room supplement is €135.
The trip is self-supported and is available during the summer season (10.5-8.9.2024).

With an electric bike you will ride lightly and ecologically and it is easy to fit on the ferries.
Day 1. Individual arrival in Turku, Turku-Nauvo 55 km
Depending on your travel plan you may want to start cycling immediately after arrival. In that case you can leave your luggage (1 bag/person) at the rental office. If you arrive late, it is more comfortable to stay the first night in Turku and start cycling in the morning. In that case we will be happy to help to book an extra hotel night for you.
The first day of cycling will take you through the small archipelago towns of Kaarina and Parainen (Pargas) before arriving at the island of Nauvo by ferry. This daytrip offers great opportunitites for a detour if you want to explore castle ruins, museums or even a big open limestone mine. There will also be several idyllic cafées and handicraft shops. Your accomodation in Nauvo will be in the tiny but lively Nauvo village or in the country side.
Day 2. Nauvo – Korppoo 32 km
From Nauvo village cycle along Norrstrandsvägen, which is a winding village road with some self-service farm kiosks selling fresh potatoes, tomatoes and other products.
The next ferry in Pärnäs has regular departures and the crossing takes 5 mins. In Korpo you immediately get more of an archipelago feeling as the road is smaller. It is a 10 km cycle to Korpo village. You pass the village of Österretais on the way with a barefoot culture-path, restaurant, hotel and Bed & Breakfast.
Day 3: Korppoo – Houtskär 25 km
Continue on The Archipelago Trail cycle back from Korpo village towards Galtby, from the crossroads it is only 1km to the ferry.
The ferry between Galtby, Korpo and Kittuis, Houtskär takes around 30mins and departs every 1-2 hours. There ia a cafe in Galtby and on board the ferry.
The road from Kittuis to Houtskär village, 10km, is picturesque; winding and undulating between small fields and forests. There are restaurants, a marina, shop, church and beach in the village as well as The Archipelago Museum which exhibits boats and boat engines.
Houtskär is known for its beautiful red boathouses and delicious new potatoes.
Backtrack from the village and then turn north towards Mossala. There are two short ferries on the way that operate according to demand so reserve some extra time if you are planning to take the ferry over to Iniö today.
Mossala Island Resort where you will stay overnight has rental cabins, a camping & caravan area, restaurant, marina, nature path and viewpoint.
Day 4: Houtskär – Naantali 56 km
Enjoy the one hour crossing from Mossala to Iniö. On Iniö the roads are narrow but there is little traffic. Iniö consists of over 1000 islets and skerries and out of all these islets only 10 are inhabited all year round. Iniö has about 210 inhabitants but in the summer the population multiplies
You will find a shop, restaurant, café and newly renovated marina in Iniö Norrby.
From the center of Iniö, it’s 6 km to the Kannvik ferry dock. Here, there is a small ferry on the way. From Kannvik to Gustavs (Heponiemi harbor), there is a ferry that takes 25 minutes.
From Heponiemi harbor, continue on road 1922 (Iniövägen) towards the intersection with Gustavsvägen (road 192). Along the way, you’ll find Kustavin savipaja, a craft village, and Laura Peterzen’s studio with a restaurant, shop, and guest harbor. If you wish, you can take a detour to the center of Gustavs where there are shops, restaurants, and accommodation options.
From the intersection with Gustavsvägen, it’s approximately 10 km to Tövsala. Along the way, there is a service station and a store, and after Kaitais bridge, there is a kiosk with a rest area.
From Tövsala center towards Hakkenpää, there’s a cycle path that ends shortly after the center. The rest of the way, road number 1961 (Hakkenpäävägen), is narrow. At Hakkenpää harbor, there are facilities including toilets and a beach. Note that this ferry does not transport cars, only light traffic! Familiarize yourself with the schedule, as the ferry does not operate frequently. The ferry Hakkeenpää – Teersalo will depart 16.30.
The crossing takes 45 minutes. In Teersalo harbor, there are good services, including the Kummeli service house. Nearby, there’s also a beach. From Teersalo, it’s about 18 km to Merimasku.
In Merimasku center, there is a shop, a restaurant, etc. Along the road to Luonnonmaa, there is also a cycle path. After that, cyclists must pedal along the roadside, which is fairly wide.
Your accommodation is at a modern holiday resort outside the town, on the island of Luonnonmaa; It’s definitely worth stopping in Naantali. Here, you’ll find all the services you might need. Near the center, there are 3 beaches.
In Merimasku center, there is a shop, a restaurant, etc. Along the road to Luonnonmaa, there is also a cycle path. After that, cyclists must pedal along the roadside, which is fairly wide.

Day 5: Naantali – Turku 22 km
On this last daytrip there are no ferries.
Naantali center is absolutely worth a visit! This pearl with its charming wooden old town is a summer favorite among locals and tourists. Bustling restaurants, nice cafés, lovely harbour and several nice beaches await. Kuparivuori hill is also a great place to see!
The last day’s cycling won’t be very long, (approximately 22 km from your hotel, and 17 km from Naantali center, e.g. roads 40 Naantalintie or Raisiontie – Satakunnantie; cycle path along the whole way) so you will have time to enjoy Naantali, or maybe you want to get back to Turku early.
Archipelago Visit 3 days
This 3 and a half day independent cycle tour starts from Turku. You will be visiting both small towns and the island villages connected by bridges and ferries. Most of the roads are paved, and partly there are separate cycle lanes. The route profile is relatively easy, but with some rolling hills.

This 3 and a half day circular independent cycle tour starts from Turku. You will be visiting both small towns and the island villages connected by bridges and ferries. The roads are paved and partly there are separate cycle lanes. The route profile is relatively easy, but with some rolling hills.
Individual arrival to Turku. Accommodation in a hotel in city centre. Explore also Turku, the oldest city in Finland. You are welcome to store extra luggage at the hotel during your tour.
Day 1. Turku – Nauvo (Nagu), 55 km

Day 3. Nauvo – Naantali, 35 km
After breakfast you will start by boarding, the morning or midday ferry over to Rymättylä. The ferry ride is about one hour. You can also stop by the island of Seili and visit this island with a cruel history of being a lepracy colony and deportation place for people with mental illness, now the Archipelago Research Institute. From Seili you continue to Rymättylä with the ferry. Soon after the harbour you can stop and climb up to the WW2 air surveillance tower for a view over the islands. Before reaching the busy Naantali you will pass Kultaranta, the summer residence of the president of Finland. Your accommodation is a little bit outside Naantali. In the evening you have time to explore the cosy wooden houses in the city center and restaurants along the shore line.
Day 4. Naantali – Turku, 15 km
The third day is only a short distance back to Turku. Individual departure from Turku, alternatively spend the day and an optional night in Turku.
